Converting an existing finished basement to a legal suite typically requires: adding or upgrading fire separation (drywall, fire-rated doors), installing a separate entrance, ensuring egress windows meet code, adding smoke and CO detectors, and upgrading electrical to separate panels.

Because some basic structure may already be in place, a conversion can cost less than a ground-up legal-suite build. The saving depends on what is actually compliant, the permit path, required systems, and the gaps we find during assessment.
